For over 35 years the Friends of the Santa Maria Public Library, a voluntary organization of community members, has supported and enriched Santa Maria by promoting books, reading, and libraries. Since incorporation by the State of California in 1982 as a non-profit organization, Friends’ volunteers and members have worked thousands of hours and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to support our mission … to promote reading and libraries in our community.

We have funded countless library books for children, teens, and adults as well as a myriad of:

  • Library programs for children, teens, and adults
  • Performances and special programs
  • Book clubs

Fundraising includes:

  • Friends’ donations
  • Monetary donations
  • Online sales of donated books
  • Book sales
  • Annual Painted Chair Raffle
  • Grants
  • Membership dues
